Food Photography in Spring

by dav.d

I was the food photographer for these delicious items back in Spring. The chef and author, Donna Kelly, was focusing on healthful alternatives including deviled eggs!

I really wanted to share multiple versions of these photos. Some of them are an aerial, or overhead view. Other angles are your more traditional view as if you are sitting down to each.

And a side note: there is no need to put two forks on the plate. The plate is for one person, why do they need two forks? That was my mistake. I was probably being artsy. However, you want to have some sense of realism. So lesson learned.

These photographs were created with natural light from a bay window. When using natural light it is best to use a tripod although I can boost the ISO for some of the more creative angle photographs.

The Raw Asparagus salad is uncooked! It is probably meant for those on a Raw Diet which is a more extreme version of veganism. You’re vegan… and you don’t cook your food.

I was most excited about the Green Eggs and Ham deviled eggs. Instead of mayo you are using avocado. And she has added prosciutto as well. I could eat these bad boys all day.

And finally, we have the creamed spinach. For food photography is can be helpful to use the ingredients as props around the food. Creamed spinach is one step away from photographing soup. It can be challenging to make it look interesting. We added some red pepper flakes and placed some ingredients around the plate.
